We have a new #2 this week as Oregon leapfrogs Alabama, although we're splitting hairs at this point because the EWP difference is only 2 points. Save the OMG BEST CONFERENCE EVAR arguments for the Paul Finebaum show. Speaking of SEC teams, Auburn is continuing a methodical climb up the poll but continues to struggle under the ineptitude of their defense. Ironically, Florida is falling like a rock after their cocktail party win. Although their EWP increased by +42 points, other teams increased more quickly, causing the Gators to lose ground. However, Georgia catches a break (+100 EWP) by playing Florida closer than expected.
Stanford leaps back into the top five thanks to a 42-0 shellacking of Washington. Their defense has been suspect compared their extremely efficient offense, so anything to improve their defense will lead to significant improvements. We also see Iowa climbing back into the top five after beating previously undefeated Michigan State. Regular readers will find this unsurprising, since RBA doesn't respect Michigan State or their biggest win Wisconsin. The Hawkeye defense is dominant and supported by an above average offense.
