We're ten bowls into our countdown and we're still not out of the list of games that include teams with losing records to FBS opponents. Neither of these teams impressed this year, but each has an offense that's better than their defense, each plays at a moderate pace, and Eddie and I disagree over who will win. Put together this adds up to the number 25 spot on our countdown. Air Force has a 1.3 PPH advantage on offense and a 1.3 PPH advantage on defense; this game will be close, but look for the Falcons to pull out a narrow victory. Air Force 37, Rice 35 (57.4%); 165 plays.

Last year's Penn State squad was pretty high up there on the list of most bipolar teams; they had the #4 defense in FBS, but the #93 defense. It appears that this year's Georgia Tech squad has managed to be even more bipolar than that, clocking in with the #11 offense but the #104 defense. This is a team that held Florida State to 21 points, but let Middle Tennessee State score 49. Which Tech team will we get? Who knows? USC had high preseason hopes after finishing last year ranked 15th in the TFG poll, pairing a 27.6 PPH offense with a 17.0 PPH defense. Some called them a preseason #1 favorite, but four months later they're ... ranked 17th with a 29.0 PPH offense (+1.4 PPH) and an 18.2 PPH defense (+1.2 PPH). This is pretty much the exact same team as last year. I should also note that the Yellow Jackets started the season ranked 55th and are currently ranked ... 55th. The more things change, they more they stay the same. So watch for USC to thump an ACC team. USC 43, Georgia Tech 36 (73.3%); 158 plays.

Don't let the records fool you; both of these teams are about as good as (55) Georgia Tech, albeit much less bipolar. The (47) Arkansas State Red Wolves may have one more loss than the (64) Kent State Golden Flashes, but they did better against a tougher schedule. Kent State played the 7th-weakest schedule in FBS, and only has one win against a top-30 team (a 35-23 win over (24) Rutgers). Arkansas State played a slightly tougher schedule and did better against the weaker teams they played. The main difference is defense: the Red Wolves are 3.0 PPH better than the Golden Flashes, which should be the big difference in this likely-to-be-ugly game. At least we'll have the awful GoDaddy commercials to entertain us at halftime. Arkansas St. 37, Kent St. 34 (60.0%); 167 plays.

This BCS bowl is being billed as a top-20 matchup, but .... yeah, not so much. Florida State has two losses: a freak loss to (51) North Carolina State, and a legit loss to (5) Florida. The Huskies played the third-weakest schedule in FBS and still struggled to put away some of their competition. Still, look for the media to try and play this up. The BCS actually has Northern Illinois ranked at 15th, which tells you all you need to know about the BCS. The Seminoles have a 5.8 PPH avantage on offense and a 1.6 PPH advantage on defense. TFG just barely puts the Huskies inside the top 30, so look for the Seminoles to try and put this one away early. Florida St. 38, Northern Ill. 32 (68.9%); 164 plays.

Were it not for a freak loss to Georgia in late October, the (4) Florida Gators would be playing in the BCS title game. Florida played the fourth-toughest schedule in all of FBS and very nearly went undefeated. Louisville played almost the very definition of an average schedule, and lost two games. Don't get me wrong: (46) Louisville is a respectable team, but the last time the Gators played someone comparable was the Cardinals was their September 15th matchup against (36) Tennessee, which Florida won 37-20. This won't be close. Florida 38, Louisville 30 (82.5%); 156 plays.
